Another scrap tutorial.. paper foundation/paper piercing

Feels like making another tutorial on my scrap project, i am bitten by tutorial bugs hahaha

Here, I would like to share how do I clear off my smallest, odd shapes cotton scrap... no more heavy cotton ok.

These are scraps out of scraps... camna tuh? Actually I used a bigger scrap for my Apple Cores project, I collected the one that cant fit in to the apple's pattern in one box... and here it is.

Truely, its not my favourite patchwork method. I dont feel like trying other paper piercing pattern :P. But one thing that I learned, by paper foundation, you will get a stable and sharp shapes of your patchwork.

First you need to determine your pattern. Here I am preparing for a 4inch x 4inch block.

Use a tracing paper and create your own pattern (you can find tracing paper at any stationery shop or at the hypermarket) Say NO to A4 paper, because its hard to tear off the paper, and it might peel off your thread too

Take one piece of scrap, and put another on top if it and sew.. really hard to explain by word, but you can refer to the picture below

You can always play around with any scrap that you have. there is no specific rule.

Dah siap.... This is at the back.

Trim the excess fabrics, I should have used my rotary cutter, but my Mr.P is a bit far away (by few steps :p) from my cutting table, therefore I just use my scissor. But no need to be so accurate on the fabric, just use the paper as a guide when sewing

Then attach the block to border, I use 2 inches border.

Now tear off the paper

Finally you will get this..

I made this for my new table runner, but seems bigger that it should be, nak jadi apa agaknya yer... peram dululah..

My Lazy Machine Binding Tutorial

Its a continuation on my previous posting on my scrap clearance project. Now I am going to clear off my 2 inches binding scrap. I have collected all binding leftover in one shoe box, so that easier for me to pick any of them incase i need it urgently... some  long enough to cover for a small project and some are merely two or three inches leftover.. i kept even the smallest one like 2 inches leftover binding haha.. I am a bit stingy person right.

Here we are... I sew the fabric at random... colourful right... and then folded it by ironing.

Fold it into two and begin to sew it after 3 to 4 inch from the beginning of the binding tape.

Sila pastikan fabric bawah dijahit yerr... additional tip on this, masa ironing make sure lipat betul2 sama atas dan bawah ok

Stop at the corner... make sure matikan jahitan yerr

The fold it like this

Cover it up and start sewing on it.. until all four corners

Leave few inches of the fabric unsewn and join both the end and the beginning of the binding tape.

Cut the remaining fabric

Complete the binding process

Here is the result..

Kalau dibandingkan dengan cara biasa, the one you sew at the front side and handsewn the other side, this binding method reveals the stitches, kurang cantik skitlah, but much more easier, especially with a fast and furious scrap project like this hehe

Dah siap 3, another 2 have to put on hold first, till I get enough "2 inches" binding leftover hahaha (kedekut betul nak cut a fresh new binding tape kan)

Additional tips on sewing a thin fabric... use your finger to adjust the front and the back of you binding tape

With that you can easily get almost the same width for the front and the back of the binding tape..

And pleaseee be reminded.. if you are doing it for the first time, anda akan mengalami jahitan yang terjatuh dari landasan hihihihi.. i.e. jahitan sebelah belakang tak kena, or jahitan yang terlalu jauh ke dalam. Jangan putus asa yerr... Practice makes perfect, and you will save much time by doing this binding method.

Time for scrap clearance

Bila dah siap banyak projek, bermakna timbunan scrap pun bertambahlah. Dari satu kotak kasut tuh, dah melimpah ruah, takde tempat nak letak dah.

So its time for scrap clearance..

Kita mulakan dengan heavy cottonlah yerr

Dah dapat 5 pieces, pelbagai saiz, placemat (belum binding process lagi nii)

Saya suka guna placemat macam niii.. terutama kalau nak hidangkan makanan panas (boleh jadi pelapik masa nak bawa makanan or lapik kat meja makan) or jadi alas jag air yang berais, jadinya air yang menitis dari jag akan di serap oleh placemat ni. Tapinya kena rajin basuhlah kan, kalau setahun tak berbasuh, berkarat sudahhhh hahaha.

Bukan takat fabric scrap jer... tapi batting pun guna scrap 

Kebiasaannya saya zigzag stitch dulu batting scrap ni. Rasanya pernah tengok idea zigzag stitch tuh kat blog Sue MyBotang, tapi cari-cari tak jumpalah plak linknya.

Tapi yang ni mmg banyak yang odd shape, dan saya pun agak malas nak buka my NV50 untuk guna zigzag stitch, what I did was... just rearraged the batting on top of the lining fabric

Then letakkan fabric kat atasnya.. kiranya batting tadi dah jadi sandwich..

Then quilt it.. kena hati2 sebab kain belah bawah mungkin akan tersenget benget jugak..

Tinggal nak binding jer lagi..

Binding pun saya plan nak guna scrap binding. Semua lebihan kain untuk binding saya letak satu tempat, so just sambung jer mana yang sama saiz.

I am back.... to my machine

Saya masih keletihan, walaupun dah 3 hari majlis kenduri berlalu.

Lack of sleep and I kept on moving around.

Bila dah habis kenduri, banyak plak barang2 yang perlu di simpan dan dikemaskan.

Tapi mungkin lebih bertuah dari zaman saya dulu, sebab dulu kami pinjam barang2 untuk kenduri seperti kawah, periuk, pinggan mangkuk etc etc dari surau, menjadi tanggungjawablah nak memulangkan semula ke surau kan. But now, semuanya disewa. Apa yang perlu kami lakukan adalah cukupkan bilangan barang2 yang disewa, letakkan satu tempat.

Dan macam tu lah kalau kenduri di kampung, masih lagi ada saki baki kerja gotong royong untuk kenduri kendara ni. Walaupun tidaklah seperti dulu.

Dulu-dulu, seingat saya kerja2 kenduri ni bermula beberapa hari sebelum majlis berlangsung lagi. Its long time ago, masa tuh saya masih lagi budak2, suka tolong bungkus gula2 untuk cenderahati majlis kahwin, sambil2 tuh boleh makan gula-gula jugak hahahaha

Dan di zaman sekarang, dah ada yang mula beralih ke catering services, tapi seperti majlis2 di KL ni, majlis yang menggunakan khidmat caterer tidaklah semeriah majlis kenduri secara bergotong royong. Kebanyakan tetamu akan pulang selepas habis makan. Tapi zaman dah berubahkan, agak2nya, suatu hari nanti jangan mimpilah nak makan sayur umbut kelapa kalau ke majlis kenduri, or gulai kawah.. yum yum.

Dah balik rumah sendiri terasa plak boringnya, senyap sunyi jer, Izzah layan TV jer memanjang. Untuk menghilangkan boring "terpaksa"lah saya merajinkan diri, potong kain untuk cloth pantyliner niii... ahaaa.. saja cari alasan kan.

With 4 layers of flannel, memang sesuai sangat untuk daily use.

Saya dah kekurangan bamboo fleece, so terpaksalah guna alternatif lain plak kan. Good thing is, ianya lebih murah..

Bila dah tengok gambar kat PC baru perasan yang ini gambar sebelum isi snap button hahaha..

And lastly, saya letak gambar bilik pengantin dengan segala dulang hantaran yang ada. Opssss.. saya ni tergolong dalam golongan minimalis, jadi sememangnya tidak boleh di harap untuk menghias dulang hantaran.

Cuma satu sahaja hasil kerjatangan saya di sini, bukan satu dulang tau, only part of the work jer, agak-agak ada sesiapa boleh teka tak?
