Patchwork Note 1

Happy Friday kawan-kawan semua..

Friday is the most productive day of the week right hihii.. esok nak cuti, so kenalah siapkan semua kerja for this week.

On this bright sunny day, I just wanna share some tips on patchwork pattern. I havent used any readymade quilt pattern so far, but I do take some of the idea by surfing on the net and make my own patterns. Its much more convenient to me as it fits my skills (as a beginner) and the size that I want. 

As you can see below, here is my own drawing patchwork pattern

Turn out to be this baby quilt.

The pattern above measuring 40 inch x 32 inch, and I have added the borders to make it wider

This paper pattern helps me a lot on fabric cutting, I will just need to cut what is needed... no extra block and not that I need to stop sewing it just because I need to cut more fabric. Its also helping me a lot in arranging the blocks.

What you need is a square block paper.. or else.. "curi " satu buku maths anak anda hihihihi..

Make an assumption on the square, for a baby quilt I normally used small block, an 8 inch block, therefore 1 square = 2 inchs on fabric. And the picture below, I assume 1 square=3 inch square on fabric, making 9 inch block each.

Jeng jeng jeng... pattern besar camni kekadang saya pun pening... nii nak buat queen size kengkonon, tapi bilalah ntah nak siapnya.

Emmmm camna plak nak add seam allowance kan..

 You just need to add:

• add 1/2 inch for square block, contoh nak buat square 2 inch, so you need to cut 2 1/2 inch suare on fabric
• add 7/8 inch for HST (half square triangle). Contoh nak buat 2 inch HST (2.5 with seam), you need to cut 2 7/8 inch square on fabric. You can refer to this formula for detail, and this tutorial for quick piercing.
• add 1 1/4 inch for hourglass square. Contoh nak buat 2 inch hourglass block (2.5 with seam), u need to cut 3 1/4 inch square on fabric. You can refer to this formula and this tutorial for details.

Oklah.. itu sahaja perkongsian ilmu saya pada hari Jumaat yang mulia ini.

Sebenarnya ada permintaan agar saya buat kelas untuk patchwork ni, tapi I have no confident yet, rasanya masih lagi beginner, so saya kongsikan apa yang saya ada di sini sahajalah yer. Harap ramai orang boleh dapat manfaat dari perkongsian ini.
